Don’t Say You Love Horror
Written by Ash – CEO of Horror Ink & Ash & Ink
You say you love horror?
You say you support indie authors?
Then listen closely — because I’m about to tell you the truth that’ll make you squirm.
π If you won’t download a
free horror book
—
Don’t say you love horror.
Because horror is risk. It’s blood. It’s guts on the page and truth with its teeth out.
If that’s too much for you when the price tag is $0…
Then it was never love. Just a costume you wore in October.
✍️ If you won’t
review a free book
someone sent you —
Don’t say you care about writers.
Because that book?
It was a piece of someone’s soul. A scream wrapped in ink.
And you ghosted it like it meant nothing.
You don’t need to like it. But silence? That’s cowardice in a hoodie.
π If you won’t
buy
a book from an indie author —
Don’t say you support indie art.
You want the real?
Most indie authors are hanging on by a thread.
They’re not being backed by publishers or promoted by BookTok stars.
They’re bleeding alone, hoping someone like you sees them.
And you know what hurts worse than rejection?
Fake support. Empty shares. Likes with no love.
The people who scream “support small creators!” and then drop $40 on a Funko Pop instead.
This isn’t guilt.
It’s a reckoning.
You don’t have to buy every book.
You don’t have to love every story.
But don’t lie to yourself — or us — about what you support.
Because we see you.
And horror?
It’s watching.
