There is one bookstore in Guthrie. One.
And guess who isn’t welcome?
Not the horror author who lives in Guthrie.
Not the writer who attended their first ever horror book signing.
Not the one who has published over 30 books and writes with unapologetic fire.
Not the one who wrote a book (2Die4) dedicated to LGBTQ+ youth, pledging 100% of the proceeds to suicide prevention.
Nope. Not him.
He’s too loud. Too real. Too unwilling to fake nice for the sake of fragile egos and curated feeds.
Let’s talk about the bitter hypocrisy.
The owners of this bookstore have a transgender child. A horror author in their own town writes and publishes a book for the LGBTQ+ community. He reaches out. Offers to donate. Offers to participate. Offers to uplift.
No reply. Not a word.
And now they’re proudly promoting their 2nd Annual Horror & Thriller Book Festival—a cutesy, sanitized, influencer-friendly affair, complete with hashtags and neon graphics. And not only is he not invited, they’ve made it very clear:
He’s not welcome.
Let that sink in.
This isn’t about books.
It’s not about “tone” or “community vibes.”
It’s about cowardice.
It’s about selective support.
It’s easy to say you support queer voices when they play by the rules.
It’s easy to post a rainbow when it comes with cupcakes and safe applause.
It’s harder to stand with the raw, the real, the inconveniently outspoken.
And to that we say: Fuck your cliques. Fuck your curated allyship. Fuck your pretend inclusivity.
This is why the Ash & Ink blog exists.
This is why we write Declassified Files.
This is why we show up anyway—uninvited, unfiltered, and undeniable.
Because when a town gatekeeps its own talent,
When a cause forgets its actual advocates,
When a store that sells books silences authors—
We document. We expose. We outlast.
